The active slope protection system (also called Tecco mesh system or SNS active protection) is a surface-retention rockfall mitigation system. Unlike passive systems that catch falling rocks, the active system covers and stabilizes the rock face — preventing rocks from detaching in the first place.

- Mesh Coverage: High-tensile steel mesh (Tecco G65/3) draped over rock face and anchored at top, bottom, and intermediate points
- Anchoring: Soil nails or rock bolts (25mm diameter, 2-4m depth) transfer loads from mesh to stable ground
- Retention: Mesh holds loose surface rocks against slope — prevents initial detachment
- Drainage: Mesh openings allow water to drain — prevents hydrostatic pressure buildup
- Vegetation: Mesh openings allow vegetation growth — long-term slope stabilization via root systems
